Malaga is a city and a commune located in the Andalusia autonomous community of Spain. With the population of about 570,000 Malaga is the most southern large city in Europe. The main reason for Malaga to be a popular tourist destination is proximity of Costa del Sol. Every year this region attracts many tourists by its sandy beaches, sunny days, beautiful Mediterranean Sea and vivid sights. Summer season lasts here almost eight months, so Malaga is always full of visitors from all over the world.

The city of Malaga has long and rich history that delves back to 770 B.C., when the Phoenicians found first settlement on this land. Later Malaga was a part of the Carthaginian Empire until Romans conquered it. During the Roman period the city began to develop and had a special status in the Roman Empire. In the 8th century Malaga was captured by the Moors and was ruled by the Muslims until 1487. During the Muslim rule the city was a part of Caliphate of Cordoba and Caliphate of Granada and turned into an important port. After the Reconquista Malaga finally joined the Spanish state.

Malaga is rich in architectural monuments of different cultures and historical periods. Among the most popular sights are: the Old City, remains of the Roman theatre, Alcazaba castle, the Church of Santiago, the Cathedral and the Episcopal Palace, remains of city walls of different epochs and many others. Apart from the sights in Malaga tourists can enjoy a great number of cultural festivals. The most celebrated are the Holy Week and the August Malaga Fair.
